simulation center masarykBig news: our partner university, the Masaryk University, in Brno, Czech Republic, is going to build a simulation center for the training of future physicians and dentists on the university’s modern “Bohunice campus” at the beginning of 2018. The project already passed review at the Czech Ministry of Education and this summer, funds are going to be allocated. The simulation center will have an area of about 8,000 m2. The costs of the building including all equipment amounts to 33 million Euro (880 million Czech koruna). The simulation center is planned to be finished in 2020.

simulation center masarykThe simulation center will concern all faculties, but will mainly focus on the Faculty of Medicine and the Faculty of Dentistry, since one key part of the project is the building of a training hospital on the university campus in Brno. The building will imitate a real hospital environment with an emergency department (incl. a fully equipped ambulance model), a heliport, operating rooms, a maternity ward, an intensive care unit, examination rooms, dental offices and hospital rooms. Having all these facilities, will give the students the opportunity to practice regular and highly complex interventions in a safe environment.

Masaryk University’s Rector Mikuláš Bek says: „Quality of education and hands-on experience during one’s studies are our long-term priorities, that is why we have focused in this project on measures that increase the quality of the education we offer – including simulation centers, which we have so far seen only in other countries.” Petr Šťourač, the initiator and guarantor of this project, adds: “The planned concept will have a major impact on the way we deliver education to our medical students. The simulation center is unique not only in how comprehensive it is, but also in that it brings the most state-of-the-art features of simulation medicine into students’ everyday schedule. Every room, simulator, or teaching aid will have a fixed place in the study plan.”
